First pics in his first new home

A few pics of our little duckling in his first little home.  He/she's in what is referred to as a Brooder - a heated enclosure which is a safe place for the duckling to get acclimated to its new environment now that it's outside of the egg shell.  After about 12 hours he started drinking a lot of water which is what they're supposed to do.  Maybe it's because he was finally ready or maybe it had something to do with my moving the water container a little closer to the heat source.

I was told ducks automatically will know what to do with the food - eat it.

I don't think he was getting the hang of eating it yet.  But what baby doesn't like to play with or in its food?

OMG!  look how tiny he is!

There's a thermometer behind him because he first needs to be in a very warm environment after just being in an egg in an incubator.  Then, over time, the temperature is gradually lowered so that he can tolerate the temperatures outside.
